For the longest time, I had been looking for information about the birth of James Gregory my father, (Robin Gregory’s furthest-traced ancestor. James lived in Youlgreave with his wife Helen nee Wallwin. New information has emerged that Jame’s father may not even have been from Derbyshire but the James Gregory christened in Duffield might still be a strong candidate.
Dawn Scotting pointed me to a James Gregory born in Duffield on the IGI. however today I found this Belper website with the Duffield Births.
I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this.
Next time I’m up in Derbyshire, I will be checking to see if I can find the parents of this James. Perhaps the Baslow hope was a Red Herring?
