In 2009, I was regularly getting out and about. Empowered by having a phone camera I spent a lot of time taking photos of simple everyday things. My thinking was that it might be nice for people to look back at the way things were in the early 2000s. Time passes by very quickly and before you know it 10 or 15 years have passed by. Already, I’m staggered at how much technology has changed in the last few years. Here are some photos taken in and around the Matlock Bath area.

Cockchaffer beetle, one of 2 I rescued that morning. these were very common at the top of Clifton Rd in Matlock Bath at the time. the Derwent Valley is blessed with these beetles, we even get them further down the valley, but I never saw any at all when I lived in the North of the Peak District, nor did I ever see them in Staffordshire, though I’m sure they will exist if you know where to look.
At this time, I would regularly visit the pubs in Matlock and Matlock Bath. On this particular occasion, there was a lady with her pet Meerkat. This was at the Riva pub in Matlock Bath. A Meerkat in the Pub is not something you see every day.
At the time I did like to drink a pint of Bitter. Generally, I didn’t drink lager at all. Old Trip, was an unusual beer because I’d never seen it in Bottles, or indeed in any other pub before, but it was one of the nicest pints I’d drunk in a long time.
My computer chair, clearly, I must get more exercise.
